Terrorism, a contemporary expression of the ongoing "Clash of Civilizations," is now closely interlinked with debt and oil supplies.

It is hard to understand terrorism without understanding two points:

  1. We are all more closely interlinked, especially with the power of the internet.
  2. Cultural and religious differences polarize us, and the world is becoming divided into a "Western and a non-Western one."

Tom Friedman is right: The World is flat. Samuel Huntington is right: We are in a "Clash of Civilizations."

If we weren't indebted to the world, and if we weren't so addicted to oil, it would matter less. But we are indebted and we are addicted.
